What are Table-Top Exercises
A structured, discussion-based exercise where participants (like an organisation's incident management team) simulate a real-life event, such as a terrorist attack or natural disaster, to test decision-making, communication, and emergency plans in a controlled, informal environment. A facilitator guides the discussion, posing hypothetical situations and questions to help the team walk through their procedures, identify gaps, and improve their preparedness without the need for hands-on drills.
Benefits
Tabletop scenarios offer a low-risk, cost-effective way to improve crisis preparedness by testing response plans, identifying gaps, enhancing team coordination and decision-making, and increasing overall confidence in handling emergencies. They provide a controlled environment to practice responses to realistic threats, align teams on processes, build critical thinking skills, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
